'The Novel Pattamahadevi Shantaladevi' was adjudged as the Best Creative Literature of 1978 - Award given by Karnataka Sahitya Academy.

'The Novel Pattamahadevi Shantaladevi' made C.K. Nagaraja Rao to be the The Very First Recipient of Moortidevi Award of Bharatiya Jnanapith in 1983.

Bharatiya Jnanapih instituted Jnanapith Award and Moortidevi Award in 1961. But only in 1983, Jnanapith started to award the' Moortidevi Award'. The Very First Recipient of Moortidevi Award in 1983 was given to this Novel by Bharatiya Jnanapith.

He was the first recipient of the Moortidevi Award instituted by Bharatiya Jnanpith for his magnum opus "Pattamahadevi Shantaladevi" in 1983.

Bharatheeya Jnanapit instituted the new ‘Moorthidevi Sahithya Puraskaara’. The purpose of this award is to honour an Indian author for the Best literary work published in any Indian language or English which upholds the life of Indian peoples everlasting values. This award is given responding to the prominence given to India’s culture and heritage. The literary work which receives this award has to be included in that category only. The intention of literary works must be to keep the Indian culture and heritage alive.

Moorthidevi Literary Award started in 1983 to select books for honoring the recipient. The recipient of the first award was the Kannada Novel. The novel was ‘Pattamahadevi Shanthaladevi”. The author was C.K. Nagaraja Rao. It was fitting to select this novel ‘Pattamahadevi Shanthaladevi” as its first award which is the story of Queen Consort Shanthaladevi who embodied religious equality with tolerance, who excelled in art forms such as music, literature and dance, who ruled the Hoyasala Kingdom as Empress, who remained everlasting in the history of Karnataka and who lived like a shining light to preserve permanently India’s ancient values. Due to this award, Nagaraja Rao’s name became famous on the national level crossing the borders of Karnataka. It was the same with his novel also.

First awarded Instituted in 1961. First recipient of this award went to to C.K. Nagaraja Rao for his Magnum Opus Novel, Pattamahadevi Shanthaladevi].

On April 24, 1985, Kannada Sahithya Parishat conducted the felicitation ceremony in his honour. Gorooru Ramaswami Iyengar, R.S. MugaLi, N.S. Rama Prasad, M. Chidaananda Murthy gave talks to felicitate him. H.P. Nagarajaiah presided over the function. On behalf of Kannada Sahithya Parishat, he was honoured with a Shawl, flowers and fruits and a gift to remember.

On May 12, 1985, in New Delhi, Bharatheeya Jnanapit conducted the function on a grand scale to present the ‘Moorthidevi Sahithya Puraskara’ award at the F.I.C.C.I auditorium. V.N. Gadgil, Central Minister for Communication and Broadcasting presented the award to CKN. CKN gave a speech about the objective and the goal behind writing this Novel and the experiences he gained as a literary writer.

On behalf of Karnataka Government, CKN was honoured on September 9, 1985 at the directorate for Kannada and Culture for the State Youth Centre, ‘Yavanika’. Chief Guest, Karnataka Governor, Ashokanatha Bannerjee, on behalf of Karnataka Government, honoured CKN with a shawl and a gift to remember the occasion. The minister for Kannada and Culture, Dr. Jeevaraja ALwa presided over the function. This function which was conducted in a fitting manner was attended by CKN’s elderly parents, Veteran literary writers, artists and admirers.

Many organizations and associations interested in Kannada Literature had felicitation ceremonies to honour him. A few of them are: Gandhi Literary Association of Malleshwara, Jnanajyothi Kalamandira of B.E.L. Kannada Sangha, Praaja Sahithya BaLaga, Punjab National Bank Kannada Sangha, State Bank of Mysore Kannada Sangha, Banashankari third stage Kalyana Sangha, Jayanagara Housing Society, State Bank of India Kannada Sangha, Jayanagara Rotary Club, Bharathee BrahmaNa Sabhe, Uluchukamme BrahmaNa Sabhe, and others.

The same work received "Best Creative Literary Work" award by the Karnataka Sahitya Academy in 1978.

Karnataka government not only was giving him monthly bursary from 1980, it also honoured him with the Karnataka State award, “Rajyotsava Prashasthi’, in 1991. He also served in the Karnataka Sahithya Academy as its member during 1984 to 1987.
