This is the first Novel written by CKN.
CKN who earned an indelible name as a Novelist had no intention at all in writing a novel. He entered this field by coincidence. He paid much attention to writing stories and his interest to write in other literary forms was less. As the story could be created in all possibilities to take the form of a big Novel, writing Novels also gave him happiness. He wrote the story for the Kannada film “Santa Kaanhopathra”. When he was talking with his friends, there was a discussion about why would it not be possible to write the film story in the form of a novel. When he realized that it would be possible, he started to write the same story as a Novel. He knew the art of writing a novel through the translation of other novels. He had already sufficiently earned the name as a “Writer of Stories”.
When he was converting the Film story to a novel, he encountered new experiences and problems. Many things that cannot be told in the story for the film could be described in a Novel. All the points in the Novel cannot be stuffed into the Film story. Both mediums are different. Film story is not a Novel. But the same subject matter can be used in both mediums.
“Bhakthi Vijaya”, a small story, was adopted as the Film Story. This story was selected by the producer. CKN elaborated the story for the film. Probably he would not have written this story unless he was asked by the film producer. In those times, the subject matter of films was chosen to make money. Art of making the film came afterwards. The film story for ‘Santa Kanhopatra’ was prepared just for that purpose. While it was being written as a Novel it sufficiently got changed. By having more freedom to write this novel, the main character was given more attention. The story of Santa Kanhopatra itself became the story of Nambida Jeeva
The very first Novel CKN wrote was Nambida Jeeva (A trusted soul). The main theme of this Novel is about problem with prostitution.
It was the time of Sultans. The famous prostitute of the city MangaLavEde was Shyama Bai. Her daughter was Kaanhopaathra. She was extremely beautiful. She was a darling girl to the lustful people.
